WHO WE ARE?

Building Foundations of Trust

NNT is a second-generation, family owned, corporation that has provided transportation services for over 65 years.

NNT was established shortly after World War II by Marine Captain William (Willie) H. Edwards.  The Marine Corps offered to promote the young Captain Edwards to the rank of Major.  Edwards, a farmer, elected instead to marry his UNC’s sweetheart from Florida. They returned to his hometown of Nomini Grove, Virginia, where he would start his trucking company.

William (Willie) Edwards founded NNT in the Northern Neck of Virginia in early 1952.  NNT’s original motto was: FASTEFFICIENT and RELIABLE, “and its business was developed from the transportation of agricultural and building commodities between North Carolina and New York. William Edwards instilled his company and his employees with a dedicated work ethic that would foster valuable community relationships.

Historically, the Northern Neck was first named by the exiled English King, Charles Stuart II, in 1649.  The original land grant for the region was awarded in 1661 and encompassed the peninsula bounded by the Potomac and Rappahannock rivers.  The initial grant was significantly larger than the area currently known as the Northern Neck.  This historical area was the home of three US Presidents; Washington, Madison and Monroe; and three signers of the Declaration of Independence.

The operational footprint of NNT has expanded from its original focus on Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware to the 48 contiguous US states and Canada. Willie's persistence and devotion to the business led to the participation as partners of his two sons, William, Jr and Lester, in 1985.

Today, NNT’s primary area of service encompasses the region east of the Mississippi with emphasis on the I-95 and I-81 Corridors, between Georgia and up-state New York. Our preferred customers are entitled to coast to coast deliveries and International border crossings.

Being a part of a family operated company provides our employees with the benefit of being more than just a number.  NNT relies on its deeply rooted emphasis on family to offer personal contact and open lines of communication to our drivers.  For example, our Operations Center is sensitive to where our drivers reset their hours each week.  One of our goals is having our drivers home to enjoy their families.  When our drivers require a reset in their hours of service, we encourage down time at home.

NNT offers an improved benefits package, competitive industry wages, and a driving environment that features modern equipment.   Our power units are built with a 126 inch cab sleeper, LED lights, Arctic Comfort Package for warmth and quietness, Autoshift-12 Transmission, Detroit 15 liter engines, collision mitigation avoidance systems, double bunks for extra storage, refrigerators and swivel chairs.  With respect to your limited driving and on duty time, we are developing NO TOUCH freight and more drop and hook opportunities. Our company offers technologically advanced tractors that feature performance as well as comfort to the driver.  The power units of choice are the 2018 and 2019 Freightliner Cascadia SP126.
